   Welcome!
Welcome to the newly redesigned Hiram Fire Department Website. We hope that as you navigate through our site your level of awareness in Fire Safety, Emergency Planning, and Our Department will be greatly enhanced. We hope the information provided on this website will benefit You, Your Family, and Our Community.
   A Look At The Past

Since 1897, Hiram Fire Department has been serving the residents of The Village of Hiram and the surrounding area including Hiram Township. Starting as a volunteer bucket brigade, Hiram Fire Department purchased a four wheel, horse drawn hose cart from Warren Fire Department. In an effort to expand their fleet, firefighters split the hose cart into two sections. Those two carts were used for nearly thirty years before Hiram Fire Department purchased its first Fire Engine.

The 1920's and 30's marked the period where the first fire engines were being manufactured. In 1931 The Village of Hiram, along with Hiram College, and Hiram Township purchased the first fire engine manufactured by Boyer Fire Apparatus. Again, Hiram Fire Department started looking to expand its fleet of emergency vehicles. Consequently, "Engine 2," a Ford Fire Engine was purchased in 1941. Engine 1 and Engine 2 served side by side for many years. Today, Engine 2 is still maintained by the Hiram Firefighter's Association. Despite its age, Engine 2 still has the capacity to operate and pump even to this day.

As  fire  departments across the United
States  progressed,  so  did healthcare.
Ambulance     transport     of     sick    or
wounded  people  to  hospitals  became
very prominent. In the 1970's Hiram Fire
Department   created   a   team   of  first
responders   to   aid   residents   until   a
transport   vehicle   arrived.   Hiram  Fire
Department        soon        became       an
Emergency Medical Transport Service.

In the eighties, Hiram Fire Department purchased its first ambulance for emergency transport. Several firefighters were also certified as EMTs or Paramedics to meet required standards for pre-hospital emergency medicine.

Today Our Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with personnel trained in both firefighting and EMS. Our staff members operate two Advance Life Support Ambulances with state of the art medical equipment. In addition, we operate two custom fire engines, one of which contains equipment for virtually all types of fire or rescue responses including the infamous Jaws of Life. Hiram Fire Department also operates a water tanker with a total capacity of 3000 gallons to ensure adequate water supply on fire incidents. A wild land suppression vehicle, specialized for off-road fire attack also aids in protecting property and saving lives.
